I walked in the house tonight after doing my very favorite thing in the world. I had just finished rehearsal where I got to play drums for over an hour and a half, creating music with other musicians and vocalists. Nothing moves me more; almost nothing.
As I walked through the door, I saw my wife on the phone. Not wanting to disturb her, I whispered "who ya talkin to?" She told me who it was; another Mom from our oldest son's karate class. As I listened in, I heard as my wife shared testimony after testimony of how God has worked in the lives of our family. This is what moves me most in life; the possibililty that someone is hearing the Gospel, listening intently and asking questions, and may come to know what I now know to be true.
Although hearing the Gospel being shared is what moves me most, there was something even more special about tonight's witness. The conversation was rooted in uncertainty in our lives, the lives of the Nix family. The call came in to ask Angela if she was doing OK with some news we got about our son Jonathan, and that very uncertainty was turned into opportunity.
My wife took our 4 year old into see his pediatrician for an evaluation that we had requested. We, Ang and I, have been monitoring Jonathan for quite some time now and we believe that he is not developing as he should. We see many signs and symptoms of Aspergers. The pediatrician, not being an expert in this field did the only thing he could do; refer us to a specialist. But the words he used are what have brought on the uncertainty; the unknown. "I see definite reason for your concern." Now we wait.
So, without going any further at this point, I ask you this again. What in the world does this, my wife sharing as she did in the midst of possible life changing news, have to do with the Bible, specifically the book we are studying, Philippians?
